"drawing file is not valid"
Hello, all, that's the error message I'm getting after restoring a drawing
directory from CD. I've tried audit, recover, trying to ddinsert it into a
clean drawing and can't figure out how to open the file. I'm sure someone
here has seen this and maybe even fixed the problem. If so, care to share
some info with me? Thanks very much.
RMM
PS I've also asked this in the autodesk ng's.

Thanks, R.K., I've tried that too, and to no avail. I've got several
projects that are corrupted and it's rather frightening, to say the least.

Re: "drawing file is not valid"
Have you tried inserting into a new empty drawing? How about using
IntelliCAD to open the drawing?

Re: "drawing file is not valid"
RMM,
Once Autocad get an error in a file the audit and recover commands can't
alway fix the problem. I have started using IntelliCAD to open the drawing
then saving the drawing. IntelliCAD does not seem to be as picky about
errors and Autocad has always opened the file saved by IntelliCAD. This way
I can recover not only the model space, but also my work in paper space.

So far, I've tried
audit and recover commands
inserting the file into a blank drawing
using a different CD drive on a networked computer
downloading an eval copy of Intellicad and trying to open it/insert it as
well.
So far, nothing is working. I'm pretty sure this has to do with copying to
CD (I was using CD RW disks for backup for a while; I now use a zip drive).
Thanks for your assistance; I sure appreciate it.

Thanks, John. I tried that - see my post in reply to R.K.

Depending on the value of the drawing file, see:

Did you copy these files (using the operating system or CD-Burning software) to a CD-ROM or did you save to the CD directly from AutoCAD?

thanks, they no longer offer the file repair service, but you gave me an
idea. I'll search for someone who may repair hopeless cases like mine.

I used the Adaptec (no Roxio) CD burning software.
Thanks,

For working out given trouble you may use present program. dwg recovery has many facilities which allowing recover crashed or lost dwg files after power failures, viruses.
